CCVO’s networking and speaker series, Nonprofit Connections brings nonprofit professionals and other community leaders together in conversation about relevant issues. These gatherings provide attendees with timely information, meaningful discussions, and actionable insights – and provide the space for nonprofit professionals and leaders from other sectors to come together to discuss important issues in the community.

The Great Resignation's impact on retention and recruitment continues to be an ongoing human resources phenomenon. One that has amplified the need for organizations to understand and adapt to the changing needs of employees and the current social landscape.

At this Nonprofit Connection, hear how leaders in the nonprofit sector have been responding to The Great Resignation, building engagement and inclusive, diverse, and equitable cultures from a systems lens. Panelists will discuss impacts faced at their organizations, innovative approaches and learnings, and shifts in how they are thinking about the future of work and sustainability of their organization.

NONPROFIT INDUSTRY AND BANKING EXPERTISE FROM ATB

From specialized tax rules to board governance, and from provincial grants to private fundraising, there’s nothing simple about the financial side of a nonprofit organization. Nonprofit leaders wear a lot of hats while managing budgeting, staffing, event planning, and more. Financial management is a crucial challenge for every nonprofit. ATB has specialists at divisions like The Branch for Arts & Culture who work with unique organizations in managing their finances.


About The Speakers

Tara Lockyer

Tara Lockyer oversees human resources and team member programs, change management, communications, marketing and brand functions for ATB. With a significant tenure in the banking and insurance industries , Tara brings a wealth of leadership and functional experience to activate ATB’s unique culture. Prior to joining ATB, Tara was the Head of Enterprise Business Engagement and Implementation for Global HR at CIBC and the Global Head of Talent, Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness for Manulife. In those roles, she developed and oversaw a wide variety of HR programs and initiatives to promote learning, culture, talent management, leadership and professional development. Tara also has experience developing strategies for complex business transformation in the risk management and technology functions..

Tara holds a Bachelor of Arts in business communications from the University of Windsor, a diploma in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier and a Certified Insurance Professional designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada

 

Ilda Songhurst

A senior, certified HR professional with more than 16 years’ experience, Ilda Songhurst has a passion for people. Ilda has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Calgary and has continued to broaden her learning throughout the years. She is a certified trainer in Situational Leadership and the Barrett Values Cultural Assessment and Leadership Development Report, has change management certifications from PROSCI and the University of Calgary and is trained in workplace investigations. Ilda is currently completing her Masters of Executive Leadership from Royal Roads University and recently was awarded the Strategic Innovator Award 2022 from CPHR Alberta. 

Ilda is a proven leader in all types of process and program development, including establishing health and safety programs, comprehensive compensation redesign, succession planning and end-to-end employee programs. She prides herself on leveraging strength and opportunity; this comes with being able to identify gaps and training needs. A strong gap analysis ability gives Ilda the foundation to create future training plans, program implementation guidelines and skill development. 

 

Anne-Marie Pham

Anne-Marie Pham has worked with diverse communities and workplaces for over 25 years. She has a deep understanding of issues and opportunities related to diversity and inclusion, and specializes in mobilizing, educating and sharing the latest research and promising practices on equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Anne-Marie brings a unique set of skills and perspectives having worked as a diversity and inclusion lead for Spectra Energy and the City of Calgary, and as a trainer and facilitator for Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.

Anne-Marie has a master’s degree in public administration (MPA), a BA in Sociology and a senior HR Professional certification with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). She is also a certified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (Tool). 

In 2013, she received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee award for her community service. Anne-Marie is a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF), a Crown Corporation dedicated to working towards the elimination of racism and all forms of racial discrimination. As of October 2020, Anne-Marie is a member of the City of Calgary's Anti-Racism Action Committee. 

 

Paul Taylor

Paul Taylor is the executive director of FoodShare Toronto, a lifelong anti-poverty activist and a champion for the right to food. He teaches at Simon Fraser University, is a regular political commentator on CTV and authors op-eds and columns that push for equity and social change.

Growing up materially poor in Toronto, inspired Paul to commit his life to doing what he can to dismantle the systems of oppression that cause and uphold food insecurity and wealth inequality, including neoliberalism and white supremacy. Paul has been named one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40, one of Toronto Life’s 50 Most Influential Torontonians and voted Best Activist by readers of NOW Magazine.
