Your source for nonprofit sector compensation & HR data.

The annual Boland Survey is the most comprehensive source of nonprofit sector compensation data in Canada. Survey data will help your nonprofit make informed comparisons and predictions on salary and human resource practices – including flex time, on-boarding, paid time off, professional development practices, employee recognition, and recruitment practices. Any registered charity or nonprofit organization that has employees in Canada is eligible to participate in the Boland Survey.

The Boland Survey will not be conducted in 2025. We will be using this time to make improvements for a better user experience. We will be switching to a new platform which will make data submission faster and more efficient. It will also allow us to implement changes to the question set that were recommended by our working group in 2022/2023. The 2024 Boland Survey will be available until the end of 2025.

If you have any questions or wish to purchase reports from before 2024, please contact bolandsurvey@thenonprofitchamber.org.

What Value Does the Data Provide?

Nonprofit organizations use the Boland Survey for developing an overall compensation philosophy, hiring for a new or existing position, or as a benchmark for salary bands. The Boland Survey is the only survey for the Canadian nonprofit sector that reports both annual salaries and equivalent hourly rates. See some of the key 2023 findings here.

Annual Subscription Information

As an annual subscriber to the Boland Survey, you can access data year-round when you need it most. Annual subscriptions, purchased when you register, are based on your participation in providing data and the number of full-time employees at your organization.

Enter your data and save up to $500 on survey reports!
Organizations who participate by entering their data get the best value out of the Boland Survey. Participants are helping to ensure that the survey remains an accurate picture of the nonprofit sector – plus it’s an affordable way to have the complete survey reports at your fingertips.

*To be eligible for the ‘survey participant’ rate, organizations must participate in the Boland Survey by entering their organizational data for the current survey year.

**Important note for non-survey participants: Organizations registered at the participant rate but not completing the survey within the allotted time will be charged the non-survey participant rate (less the price paid as survey participants) to access the Boland Survey report for that year.

The Boland Survey is supported through the Calgary Foundation HRAC Legacy Fund.

This project is part of the Investment Readiness Program funded by the Government of Canada's SI/SF Strategy.
