One Big Door: Nonprofit CEOs share their merger experience

Nonprofits at Noon: Networking & Speaker Series

Nonprofits at Noon brings nonprofit professionals and other community leaders together in conversation about relevant issues over the lunch hour, each spring and fall. These sessions provide you with timely information, meaningful discussions, and actionable insights.

One Big Door: Nonprofit CEOs share their merger experience
Thank you to everyone who attended the first virtual Nonprofits at Noon! We’re excited that you were able to join us for this event. Thank you also to our speakers, Shirley Purves and Jeff Dyer; and our Supporters, CIBC, Calgary Foundation, Government of Alberta, and Postmedia.

In this session, Shirley Purves, CEO of Aspen Family and Community Network Society, and Jeff Dyer, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Calgary, joined us in conversation about their recent merger experience. Attendees learned the new organization created by this merger, and the process of becoming one, unified organization. Shirley and Jeff joined CCVO CEO David Mitchell in discussing the merger journey from how it began and evolved, to challenges and surprises along the way. We also learned how innovation and generational change sparked this journey, and what advice Shirley and Jeff have for nonprofits who are considering similar paths.
