Thank you for making it known that #nonprofitsvote!
By CCVO Policy Team
Voter turnout for the Alberta 2019 provincial election was 64%. We haven’t seen a number this high since the ’80s. To all of you in nonprofits who participated through #nonprofitsvote to help make this happen, great work!
The goal of the #nonprofitsvote campaign was to increase voter turnout - and the campaign inspired hundreds of social media posts and shares, reaching almost 100,000 people over social media. Organizations were very creative with their participation and much of the fun happened in teams and through online engagement. A big congratulations to those who gave voice to the sector by participating in the #nonprofitsvote campaign.
You made cakes.
You took a team bus to vote.
You made videos (so many awesome, inspiring videos!)
You took pictures.
We saw a group of very diverse nonprofit organizations from across the province unite to keep our sector’s important contributions front and centre. If there’s one thing we learned by engaging in the #nonprofitsvote campaign, it’s that the sector eagerly supports democracy and helping to facilitate democratic engagement. We carry this unifying force into the upcoming federal election and into the next four years as we work with the new government to ensure that the sector continues to thrive as a vital and vibrant part of Alberta’s economic, cultural, social, and democratic fabric.
We would like to congratulate the Premier-elect, Jason Kenney of the United Conservative Party for his victory in the provincial election. We offer our thanks to the Honourable Rachel Notley for her service as our outgoing Premier and congratulate her on her new role as the Leader of the Official Opposition. We also offer our gratitude to the invaluable contributions to our democratic process and the viewpoints offered by Alberta Party leader, Stephen Mandel and Alberta Liberal Party leader, David Khan. And, we would like to thank all candidates and their volunteers who participated in the election campaign.
Thank you all for your service to the province and for your commitment to a better future for Alberta.
Finally, a big thank you to those who strengthened our sector by participating in the #nonprofitsvote campaign. Through our collective efforts, we made it known that #nonprofitsvote!
