Calgary City Council Decides Today on Proposed Budget Cuts

There was an overflowing crowd at the City of Calgary chambers yesterday, there to send a united message to the Mayor and City Councillors to #keepcalgarystrong by protecting services to Calgary’s vulnerable populations. This was the community coalition’s only opportunity to make itself heard as Council will decide today on the proposed $60 million in budget cuts.

CCVO has provided the Mayor and City Council with recommendations to consider as they deliberate. The goal is to ensure that the important work of nonprofits is maintained with the least amount of harm. The top three recommendations include:

  1. Preserving services that focus on vulnerable populations.

  2. Considering the overall operating budget of a program area or service before making cuts.

  3. Leveraging provincial and federal funding opportunities.
