A “Home in Government" Policy Brief by Imagine Canada

Imagine Canada recently released a policy paper titled Towards a “Home in Government” for the Charitable and Nonprofit Sector emphasizing the need for the charitable and nonprofit sector to be represented by a department or agency within the Government of Canada.

Currently, there is no federal department or agency tasked with ensuring the well-being of charities and nonprofits as a sector. The policy paper and blog post highlight how a lack of a department or agency for charities and nonprofits to look to for support in creating policy solutions and to address issues impacts the sector negatively. The policy report also outlines the pros and cons of various proposed solutions.

This idea is supported by the Special Senate Committee on the Charitable Sector report, Catalyst for Change: A Roadmap to a Stronger Charitable Sector,  which recommends the creation of a secretariat as a “Home” in government.
