Board Message
With deep gratitude and a commitment to sustaining our momentum, the Nonprofit Chamber and its Board of Directors announce Karen Ball will be stepping down from her role as President + CEO in the spring of 2025.
Over the past 5 years, Karen’s leadership has created a culture of support, advocacy, collaboration, and innovation within the nonprofit sector, culminating in our newly named organization, the Nonprofit Chamber. Under Karen’s leadership, the Nonprofit Chamber has achieved several key milestones, including:
Strengthening our role as a powerful advocate for nonprofits,
Presenting the inaugural Alberta Nonprofit Leaders’ Summit (look for our next Summit in April 2025),
Establishing The Nonprofit Vote, Alberta’s first shared home for sector-wide advocacy,
Advancing policy agendas on labour markets, data, and appropriate funding in collaboration with the Provincial government,
Expanding our flagship Connections Conference (join us in 2026 for our next Conference),
Creating regular opportunities for meaningful connection through Nonprofits @ Noon, Political Gossip with Friends, and many more, and
Re-branding CCVO as the Nonprofit Chamber.
We are saddened to see her leave, but we are so grateful for her leadership, advocacy, and tireless efforts in moving the entire sector forward in her five years as the leader of this organization. Karen’s dedication to the 30,000 nonprofits in Alberta has been significant. She has been a strong voice and a steadfast champion, strengthening, supporting, and raising awareness of our work and our challenges. How very proud we are as a board of the legacy she has created and will be leaving behind.
Looking ahead, the Nonprofit Chamber is poised to begin a new chapter as it marks 20 years of service and advocacy. Our committed Board of Directors and a very solid senior management team will ensure that the work of the organization will continue through this time of transition. An interim Special Committee of active board members will act as transitional support for both Karen and the organization as we begin the search process to find a new President + CEO for the organization. We will keep our members and partners informed as Karen’s departure and the search process unfold over the next few months.
