Your feedback is needed on the Canada Non-For-Profit Corporations Act

The Government of Canada is looking for feedback from the 38,000 or 20% of nonprofits and charities that are federally incorporated under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act as part of the ten-year review of the legislation. This is a chance for organizations to highlight any issues with the Act.

For more information to help guide feedback and to identify issues, see the Government of Canada’s discussion paper and a summary of the issues from the Canadian Centre for Christian Charities. The discussion paper points out the Special Senate Committee Report titled Catalyst for Change: A Roadmap to a Stronger Charitable Sector which provided 42 recommendations but “refrained from making recommendations related to corporate law” – making it a great opportunity to engage in the consultations on the Act. Submissions will contribute to a report that the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry will introduce in Parliament in the fall of 2021.

Those interested can submit their feedback at ic.nfpactreview-examenloibnl.ic@canada.ca.

The consultation is open now and runs until July 30, 2021.
