Provincial Support Announced for Nonprofits During Relaunch

On June 5, the Government of Alberta announced funding for businesses and nonprofits who are facing financial barriers to relaunch. These funds are meant to mitigate the impact of lost revenue and address the higher operating costs that many businesses and nonprofits will face.

The funding has been divided into several programs, listed below. Many details such as eligibility criteria are not yet available but should be in the coming weeks.

Up to $200 million will be invested in a program that will allow nonprofits to access up to $5,000 to offset relaunch costs. This funding may be used to purchase necessary supplies to reduce the risk of virus transmission, or to pay rent or employee wages, or to replace inventory. Once details are finalized, applications will be online.

The Government of Alberta also announced plans to introduce legislation that will protect nonprofits and small businesses from commercial tenant eviction due to unpaid rent during the pandemic.

Other supports announced include grants for the childcare and healthcare sectors, and continued ability to defer utility and other payments. Click here for more information, and a more detailed list of provincial financial support available.
