Points of Light: The State of the Alberta Nonprofit Sector Report

The nonprofit sector, for all its immense contributions to our communities, is a difficult sector to fully understand. With thousands organizations providing services to virtually every Albertan, billions of dollars in revenues, 2.5 million volunteers and more than 100,000 employees, the nonprofit sector is a foundational component of the province’s social and economic infrastructure. Surprisingly, given the importance of the nonprofit sector to our quality of life and its economic size, little comprehensive, up-to-date information is available regarding the current state of the sector in Alberta.

In many ways, we are in the dark and it is very difficult to get a sense of “the state of the sector” and even harder to make informed public policy decisions about it. To help address this information gap, the CCVO teamed up with the Canada West Foundation to put together a current portrait of Alberta’s nonprofit sector.

Points of Light: The State of the Alberta Nonprofit Sector Report is the result of a year-long research project intended to shed light on Alberta’s nonprofit sector, its challenges and its strengths.
