Government of Alberta to Reconvene Legislature ahead of Budget 2020 Release

The Alberta Legislative Assembly will resume on February 25, 2020 for the second session of the 30th Legislature where Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) will return for the Speech from the Throne. The Legislative Assembly will begin with the Speech from the Throne delivered by Lieutenant Governor Lois Mitchell. The Speech will outline the broad goals and direction of the government for the year ahead.

On February 27, Budget 2020 will be released where it will outline the government’s fiscal and capital plans. The legislature will remain in session until June 4, at which point it will adjourn for a constituency break.

CCVO provided the Government of Alberta with three recommendations for Budget 2020 on behalf of the broader nonprofit sector:

  1. Commit to adequate, long-term, sustainable funding for the nonprofit and charitable sector.

  2. Enhance nonprofit sector information and engage in meaningful consultation with nonprofits and charities.

  3. Invest in nonprofit infrastructure.

Once Budget 2020 is released, CCVO will provide analysis on potential implications of the 2020 provincial budget for the nonprofit sector. Join us as we continue to follow closely and report on developments that broadly impact the nonprofit sector.
