Bill C-470: An Act to Amend the Income Tax Act (Disclosure of Compensation For Registered Charities)
With the dissolution of Parliament on March 26, all bills that had not received Royal Assent, including Bill C-470 on compensation disclosure for registered charities, have been terminated. Bills cannot be reinstated; however, a new bill with the same or similar intent to that of Bill C-470 could be reintroduced in the next Parliament. MP Albina Guarnieri, who originally sponsored the Bill C-470, is not seeking re-election, so another member of parliament would have to introduce the bill.

CCVO is pleased to offer Calgary's nonprofits, charities and voluntary organizations access to an outstanding, self-directed management training and development program called Harvard ManageMentor, which is affiliated with the Harvard School of Business, one of the most respected business institutions in the world.
Sharing Services, Sharing Space
Calgary has a growing body of more than 5,000 charities and nonprofits with limited available resources to support their work in the community. The environment these groups work in has become increasingly uncertain in the face of the economic downturn. In this context, interest in innovative, alternative organizational structures and approaches to service delivery, already present in the community, has taken on a greater sense of urgency and interest. Exploration of new organizational approaches is required to ensure the community continues to benefit from the contributions of local charities and nonprofits.

Calgary HR Initiative Workforce Needs Survey Report
Workforce issues have changed substantially over the past year for the nonprofit sector in Calgary. The economic downturn has affected all aspects of organizational life including funding, service delivery and workforce. In order to understand the changes the sector’s workforce is undergoing, in summer 2009 CCVO launched the Calgary HR Initiative Workforce Needs Survey.
Calgary Business Tax Exemption Bylaw
The City of Calgary exempts certain types of organizations from paying business tax in recognition that in some cases, the use of a property itself returns enough community benefit that the organization should be relieved of tax obligations. This reduces the tax burden on eligible nonprofit organizations so they can provide services, support and/or programs to Calgarians.
