Statement on the Tariff Situation
In times of crisis, nonprofits and their services are needed more than ever. Neighbours and friends rely on the supports, programs, services, and connections that the 30,000 Alberta nonprofits provide in our communities across the province.
A trade war with our largest economic partner is undoubtedly a crisis.
As we navigate these rough waters together, we must keep these nonprofits in mind. For nonprofits to be able to withstand the pressures we are all facing, any relief and support packages must include programs designed specifically for nonprofits. As we learned from our experiences during the pandemic, programs designed for small business and made eligible for nonprofits will not meet our sector’s needs. For programs to truly support nonprofits, they must be designed for nonprofits and kept as a separate stream.
We also know that in times of crisis, the nonprofit sector steps up - responding quickly and with great efficiency to meet the rising needs in our communities. We look forward to working with our government partners to make sure nonprofit supports are in place to ensure no one is left behind as we prepare for the difficult times ahead.
